textiles masters, dakar/paris. cloth is structure.

Cloth logic

not sure why the trade card ended up here but the engraving lines do the same thing a weft does, so it stays. cloth logic isn't always literal i guess.

Material close

saw the do ho suh piece and kept thinking about all those works as one structure, not 500 separate things. cloth does that too, thread count building into something that holds weight. adding it to material close before i lose the thought

Wax & weave

added batool showghi's threads of resistance to wax & weave, still thinking about how she treats thread tension as an archive of labor, not just a technical detail. rereading my notes on warp counts now.

Wax & weave

haven't added anything new to wax & weave in a while but keep thinking about how the wax patterns lie on top of the cloth vs woven pattern that's actually structural. want to find pieces where that line gets blurry

Wax & weave

keep coming back to how these are all about mending something without hiding the mend. the bird costume vessel and the miss africa print are doing the same thing honestly, just centuries apart. cloth remembers what it went through.
